Guidelines for the Rescue and Rehabilitation of Bats published in Italy
The Guidelines for the Rescue and Rehabilitation of Bats (Linee guida per il recupero e la riabilitazione dei chirotteri) was officially released by the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) and available online as PDF (see the link below).
These Guidelines provide a standardized, scientifically grounded framework for wildlife rescue centres (CRAS), veterinarians, conservation professionals, and volunteers involved in bat rescue, rehabilitation, and release. The document covers key topics including admission criteria, captive care protocols (feeding and housing), medical guidelines, common pathology management, maternal reunification techniques, flight capacity assessment, and release procedures. The Guidelines also include a dedicated section on the care and management of non-native bat species.
