Convened by Henry Schofield and Tom Kitching
The IWG was proposed at the AC 15 in Bonn as in high human population density areas of Europe the renovation of derelict or semi-derelict buildings is reducing the availability of roosts for bats. Mitigating this requires the provision of replacement roosts. The role of the IWG would be to:
- Look at current practice across the EUROBATS range;
- Draw together case studies of successful and unsuccessful schemes for a range of species;
- Synthesize this information into a publication demonstrating good practice.
Structures added to existing buildings do not fall within the remit of the group. As for integrated bat boxes (interest on the part of the UK and Netherlands), it is not currently within the focus of the IWG.
