Road signs erected in Bosnia, warning about bats

Two warning signs, asking to slow down as bats might be crossing, were installed last week at both entrances to Ponikva cave near Vareš in Central Bosnia, that also serves as a motorway tunnel.  The work was accomplished by Bosnian bat experts upon the endorsement of the national Road Directorate. Bat roadkill was previously reported from this place, including two severed R. hipposideros and one P. macrobullaris, indicating that the site is an important crosspoint for bat routes.

Bosnia and Herzegovina accessed EUROBATS agreement earlier this year.
