We are pleased to announce that applications to the Kate Barlow Award 2024 are now open – the closing date is 5pm GMT, 30th November 2023.
The Kate Barlow Award aims to encourage the next generation of bat researchers by providing a substantive contribution towards the research costs of a postgraduate student undertaking research that will benefit bat conservation, in honour of the late Dr Kate Barlow’s contribution to this field.
-
The Kate Barlow Award is open to postgraduate students anywhere in the world conducting research which has direct relevance for bat conservation.
-
One award of up to £4,500 will be made towards the costs of a bat research project of no less than 4 months (full-time) duration.
-
All funded projects must begin no earlier than March 1st 2024, and no later than August 31st 2024.
-
This year’s application form includes a section assessing the risk from the proposed project of SARS-CoV-2 transmission to people and bats. Please follow the IUCN SSG Bat Specialist Group guidelines here when answering these questions.
-
In addition, BCT will pay for the award winner to attend the BCT National Bat Conference. If this is not possible, in certain circumstances we would also consider another relevant bat research and conservation conference.
-
An award decision will be made by the end of March 2024.
