European Bat Night in Gauja National Park (Latvia)

Our event started on 28 August 2004 at 19:30 in the Ungurmuiža manor. There were about 70 participants altogether – mostly families with children.
In the beginning there was a lecture about bats in the world and in Latvia. It was held by one of the leading specialists on bats in Latvia – Gunars Petersons. Participants asked many questions and had also some private talks in order to clear up some actions according to bat protection in their houses.
The weather was very good this year, so everybody could walk in the park of the manor in order to observe the hunting of bats by using bat detectors.
Every participant could take a booklet about bats, various work-sheets and stickers with them.
Before the event Gauja NP Administration made an informative campaign in the mass media. The posters, which we got from EUROBATS Federation, were supplied with information about the event and distributed all over the territory of Gauja NP.
There was also a bus free of charge for participants from Sigulda to the Ungurmuiža manor and back (~40km).
